π¬π·β¨ An Unforgettable Week for the Greek Community of Leicester!
Published Β· Updated
This week, we had the great honour and pleasure of welcoming to our city the Deputy Head of Mission of the Greek Embassy in the United Kingdom, Ms Ioanna Kriebardi.
Her visit was a wonderful opportunity to showcase the Greek community of Leicester, our cultural and educational activities, and our shared commitment to preserving the Greek language, traditions, and cultural heritage for future generations.
π¨ A Visit to Armonia Music & Arts
Ms Kriebardi visited our Byzantine Iconography Exhibition, featuring beautiful icons created by our talented students.
Presbytera Dionysia Kollia introduced the techniques used in Byzantine iconography and highlighted the many benefits this class has brought to our Greek community as we proudly enter our third year.
As a gesture of appreciation, Presbytera Dionysia presented Ms Kriebardi with a beautiful hand-painted icon.
π Celebrating 10 Years of the Leicester Greek Dancing Group
As the Leicester Greek Dancing Group celebrates its 10th anniversary, Ms Kriebardi enjoyed a special collection of photographs reflecting the group's journey, achievements, and dedication to Greek traditional dance.
To mark our recent traditional Mantili workshop, Ms Popi Charitaki presented her with a scarf and a tie featuring Greek motifs β meaningful gifts representing a small piece of our rich cultural heritage.
π« A Special Visit to Leicester Greek School
The visit continued at Leicester Greek School, where Head Teacher Ms Maria Symeonidou, School Committee President Mr Anastasakis, and members of the medical and academic community gathered for a meaningful discussion with Ms Kriebardi.
Together, they exchanged ideas, concerns, and aspirations regarding the present and future of the Greek community in Leicester, with particular emphasis on Greek-language education, cultural identity, and opportunities for younger generations.
Mr Anastasakis had organised a lovely buffet for all the guests, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere that reflected the true spirit of Greek hospitality and community.
Ms Kriebardi kindly presented books to our students and enjoyed a tour of the school, enthusiastically led by one of our young pupils.
β½ A Proud Moment for Greek Football
The day concluded with the Greek Women's National Football Team's match against England's Lionesses.
Although the result was not in our favour, the dedication and determination of the Greek players made our entire community incredibly proud.
At the end of the evening, Ms Kriebardi generously presented us with a Greek national team shirt signed by all the players.
This wonderful keepsake will proudly be displayed at our school, serving as a lasting reminder of this special occasion and an inspiration for future generations.
π A Heartfelt Thank You
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Ms Ioanna Kriebardi for honouring our community with her presence, for her genuine interest in the Greeks of Leicester, and for taking the time to learn about our activities, achievements, and aspirations.
A very special thank you to Mr Timotheos Loukas, President of the Church Committee, for his continued support, dedication, and valuable contribution to the Greek community and the preservation of our traditions and cultural heritage in Leicester.
Our heartfelt appreciation also goes to all members of the Leicester Greek School Committee for their commitment, hard work, and continued efforts to support our school, strengthen Greek-language education, and create opportunities for the next generation.
We would also like to thank our Head Teacher, teachers, parents, students, volunteers, and everyone who contributed to making this occasion so memorable.
Unity, cooperation, and our shared love for Greece are our greatest strengths.
